Isle of Skye

Europe Scotland

Nothing can prepare you for the rugged beauty of the Isle of Skye. Our 2 day trip to the island was not nearly enough to explore every inch of landscape but we tried our best!

The Fairy Pools are a series of spectacular crystal clear pools near Glenbrittle. Although the drive there is narrow and at times difficult, the view is certainly worth the effort. Once there, the walking distance to the main waterfall pool is just over 1km. The walk is along a path with some fun stepping stones along the way. There are plenty of photo opportunities and you can spend as long as you want there as the parking is free. The brave can even dare a dip in the pools!!

The Old Man of Storr is a large and impressive rock that can be distinctly seen for miles. The steep walk up to this rock is well worth it as the panoramic views from the top (and even halfway) are breath-taking. I have lived in the Scottish Highlands for 10 years and this view is one of my absolute favourites. Go early in the morning to avoid the crowds and ensure no photo-bombers! Pack some snacks and enjoy the best picnic spot in Scotland!

The Quiraing is a must for any nature lover and photographer. Although parking can be difficult (we had to park quite far away as there were no spots in the tiny car park!), make sure you do not pass up the opportunity to see the Isle of Skye from this perspective. If you can make it on a clear day, your camera will capture the best pictures of the rugged and spectacular landscapes. The full walk is just under 7km return but for those with less time, it is very easy to hop out of the car and take in the sights for as long as you can. There are plenty of friendly sheep and lambs about but unfortunately none of them posed for us!

Other stunning spots on the Isle of Skye that must not be missed include the Neist Point lighthouse, Kilt Rock and the Faeirie Glen. My favourite days here always consisted of hikes, picnics, views and undoubtedly standing in lots of sheep poo.
