Menorca is a little gem that belongs to the Spain’s Balearic islands in the Mediterranean sea. As an island life lover, I was completely stunned by Menorca. You may not have heard of it because it’s sometimes overshadowed by her highly touristic sisters: Mallorca and Ibiza. But I insist you give Menorca a chance and you will not regret it, it’s the closest to heaven that I’ve ever been.

Fancy white-sand beaches, turquoise and pristine water and stunning views? Well, you are in the right place. The island is full of idyllic corners and scenic landscapes. For the active ones, there are also hiking trails. We hiked a lot between coves, some of them are difficult to reach, that’s why they are not at all crowded. By the way, you can find some goats on your way there!

After we had spent several days just lying in the sand and sun bathing, we decided it was time to get around the urban part of the island. I advice renting a car on the island, so that you can get around easily. Our fist stop was a small fishing village called Binibeca. It’s white-washed houses and narrow streets are truly charming.

One of my favourite spots on the island is Cova d’en Xoroi. We went there to have a drink and listen to live music. We enjoyed it a lot; there was a guitarist playing covers of popular songs. I would recommend going there in the afternoon and staying (at least) until the sunset because the view of the sun going down into the sea is priceless!

Menorca has been declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, aiming to preserve environmental areas. That’s why most of the ‘calas’ (coves) are free of restaurants, shops and hotels. Instead they are surrounded by wild nature. The best part is that you can enjoy all of that while sun bathing or practicing multiple water sports.
