Beautiful Heber

United States Utah

Our family spent a beautiful weekend in beautiful Heber, Utah.  Heber is a wonderful place to get away in Wasatch County, Utah.  In the winter, you can snowmobile, snowshoe, snowboard and downhill and cross country ski.  It is close to the well-known ski resorts of Park City. Spring, summer and fall open up more recreational opportunities in the great outdoors. We enjoyed a rodeo at the Wasatch County Events Complex which has hosted any number of events from graduations, concerts, barrel races, fairs and motocross races.  Upcoming events can be found here: www.wasatchcountyevents.com/calendar

Another highlight was a visit to Utah Olympic Park which was built for the 2002 Olympics.  We loved watching freestyle aerialists train for their jumps using the pool.  We also loved watching the bobsleds race down the track. You can even sign up to take a ride down the Olympic Track with a professional pilot but it does cost extra. Inside the main facility, there is a free museum highlighting the 2002 Olympic Winter Games full of photographs and artifacts, it’s really interesting and fun to explore. We used our Salt Lake City Connect Passes to do the adventure courses, which are a great value if you’ll be spending some time exploring Utah: www.visitsaltlake.com/things-to-do/connect-pass/

My youngest daughter is a spitfire and did the Canyon Adventure Course twice. On her second time through, she slipped (thank goodness for harnesses!) and while she was suspended in the air she didn’t panic or wait for help, she just grabbed the wire her feet were supposed to be on, pulled herself over to the platform and climbed back up.  The Utah Olympic Park is so fun and a great place to spend an afternoon.  If you’re lucky, you may even be able to catch a bobsled, luge or skeleton competition.

We loved the adventure courses and riding the chairlifts
Even I got in on the fun, and I won’t lie, my heart was racing!

The next morning, we opted for a kid-friendly hike. We wanted to do something our four year old could easily complete, and that was also stroller-friendly. We decided to check out the “Midway Lane Gold Medal Mile.”  It was paved, level and ended at a beautiful covered bridge over the Provo River (2 miles roundtrip) starting from the Southfield Park in Heber. We enjoyed gorgeous views of Mt. Timpanogos and the Wasatch Mountains. The trail and bridge were dedicated as part of the 2002 Olympics to encourage people to get outside. There are lots of farms along the way and the kids loved spending time petting and visiting with horses.

We loved our short getaway to Heber, one of our favorite places to visit in Utah!  We only scratched the surface of what it has to offer in this small trip.  Other things you might want to try: Kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, ATV off-road tours, horseback riding, a trek aboard the Heber Creeper (a train on the Historic Heber Valley Railroad), a swim in the Homestead Crater (a “hidden” geothermal spring over 10,000 years in the making), hiking trails galore and much, much more!
