Chicago has it all; there really is something for everyone. I think that’s why I loved it, even before I moved to the city three years ago. Every day there’s something new.

There’s beauty around every corner

When you think of beautiful places, I’m sure cities like Paris pop in your head. But have you ever considered Chicago? Besides our iconic skyline, we’re also next to one of the cleanest lakes around-Lake Michigan. That’s right, beaches right next to towering skyscrapers. Chicago also has over 500 parks and green spaces. Sure, I can’t hike up mountains but whenever I need my nature fix, I just hop on the lake front trail or the 606 elevated trail.

City life can’t be beat

Of course, this is still a city. Chicago is perfect for music lovers, foodies and amateur comedians. Come in the summer and pick any given weekend and you’ll be sure to catch any of the number of music festivals. Eat at our top notch restaurants, for any budget. Alinea has 3 stars and is perfect if you want a once in a lifetime dining experience. You can also hit up food halls like Revival to try any kind of food your heart desires. Chicago is also home to Second City or iO, where famous SNL stars like Tina Fey and Chris Farley got their start. In Chicago, if you’re bored, you’re probably boring.

Though it has it’s problems

I’m not gonna sit here and tell you that Chicago is perfect. It’s pretty famous for its corrupt politicians (I’m lookin’ at you Blagojevich). Whenever I seem to tell people where I live, I always get asked how I got out alive. It is my official vote for the worst joke of all time. Yes, it’s safe. But its true, you need to keep your wits about you, just like any other big city. However, as a visitor its highly unlikely you would just “stumble” into the unsafe areas. They are far and removed from the hustle and bustle of Chicago.

Chicago is often called the “Second City” and its assumed that means its second to New York. I could wax poetic about these and a million other reasons about why thats wrong. Chicago is in a league of its own. Don’t take my word for it, see for yourself. Just make sure to visit between June and September!
