Sayulita Nayarit Mexico

Latin America Mexico

Sayulita is a place where you will be listening to reggae all day and you will see urban art everywhere. The beach here is full of good vibes; a perfect place for those who like hippie, surf and quiet life.

Urban Art

There are lots of options for lodging in Sayulita.

If you are looking for comfort: You have a great variety! Sayulita is a place full of tourism, therefore there are many options to have a comfortable stay, from hotels to hostels, you just have to consider one thing. How much do you want to spend?

For backpackers: There are people who own a wide terrain of land and let you camp there. The nightly rate is around $100 per tent house but prices may vary according to the place where you stay. However, camping is always going to be very economical. The grounds have security at night. Some campsites have mattresses, padlocks and even cost-effective camping houses in case you are not prepared.

My recommendation: Camping on the beach is an experience that you can not miss. Try to arrive early so you can put your tent in the front row to wake up and have the best view of the ocean!

My recommendation for a must try food in Sayulita is a hamburger called “Tierra y Mar.” That is a treat!!! It is a hamburger with meat, seafood and cheese. I recommend eating it with a mojito to create the perfect meal.

Since Sayulita is by the beach, there are lots of activities you can do! Sayulita is known for surfing so there are shops in the village that sell surfboards. There are tents on the beach that rent the boards and you can also take surfing classes. You pay by the hour for these services.

Sayulita is a small beach town. You can easily walk by foot and personally, I think it is the best way to get to know the town. If walking is not for you, Sayulita has a very peculiar transportation service. You can rent golf carts to be able to transport yourself all over the town. One of the advantages of this town is that you can take buses to nearby beaches, among them Punta Mita. Arriving at that beach, you can take a tour to discover the Marietas Islands, also known as Playa del Amor or hidden beach.

Entering the Marietas Islands is not easy, so here are my tips:

  1. Inform yourself very well before you leave. There are people who pay for the tour without knowing that the only way to get there is swimming.
  2. If you do not know how to swim, it is better to not take the tour. They provide you a life jacket and if you do not know how to swim, they help you get in. However. I think it would be better not to  book this tour because it can be dangerous and you risk drowning.
  3. Go very early! In the morning is when the sea is quiet so getting into the Marietas Islands will be much easier
  4. If you are already at the entrance of the cave but do not feel safe, do not get in. It will not get any easier.

I hope everyone will visit Sayulita! It is a beautiful beach town with much to discover. Take your time and relax.
