The Amazing City of Kanchanaburi

Asia Thailand

Kanchanaburi is the third biggest province In western Thailand, 140km from Bangkok. The city of Kanchanaburi is well known for the historical sights of the Second World War, were the worst tragedy happened. Also, the province is rich in temples, nature, and good noodles houses.

If you have the time to travel around the province, you should spend some time at Wat Phothisat Banpotnimit and make an offer to the monk (he’s young and he can speak English well) to have some precious teaches. The place is so quiet and peaceful and all decorated in Chiang Mai style.

Outside the temple, you can see huge statues with lots of hands representing the meaning of “help other people.” In our life, we should have a lot of hands to help our friends, to pray, to work, to share, to give offers to all those people that we meet every day in our life.

During the daily trip, you can visit the Wat Tham Khao Noi, a temple on the hill, with an amazing view of the rice fields, where you can find typical aspects of the Chinese and Thai tradition. The Temple is so suggestive; you can walk up on both of Pagodas and ring the bells, that represent good luck. Visiting there is so moving; all the sculptures and holy places are huge and the nature around seems to tiny. It’s fully surrounded by fields and trees.

A suggestion? Plan a 4 day trip to take some time to rest and have a peaceful time in Kanchanaburi. The Province offers a lot of activities to do such as the Erawan Waterfalls and the Elephant Heaven. You can reach it by train from Bangkok and admire the amazing view outside of the window. Once there, you can visit the historical sites such as the Bridge on River Kwai, The Death Railway or the Pass of the Three Pagodas.
