A Week in Croatia

Croatia Europe

We spent a week in Croatia (Split, Piltvice, Hvar). We flew into Split and spent a day exploring the city and later to the beach. The next two days, we rented a car and had a look at the two National Parks (Krka and Plitvice). Driving and finding the parks was very easy. Both were well worth the visit, with Krka being smaller but also being able to swim, while Plitvice Lakes was spread over a full valley with both having unreal clear turquoise water and stunning waterfalls. We stayed in an apartment near Zadar that we found on AirBnB, as it was located between the two parks.

After the national parks, we drove back to Split and took the boat to Hvar, where we stayed for another 3 days. Hvar was great for food and nightlife and there were plenty of beaches to spend the days. One of the days, we did a boat trip to the Blue Cave on the island Bisevo while also stopping off on the island Vis and the Paklinski islands. There are plenty of tour companies in the town that offer day trips; its best just to have a look around on the day before. On the last day, we got the boat back to Split and flew home.

The weather was perfect with about 29 degrees celsius and the sea was still very refreshing. The crystal clear water was also perfect for snorkelling and we saw everything from octopus to barracuda and everything in-between. The food was reflected in this with a lot of grilled seafood like squid or john dory. Prices were as cheap as expected with a meal costing roughly the same as here in Ireland (10-15€). It was definitely well worth it the trip and I would go back and include Dubrovnik for which we didn’t have time for this time.
